Health and Fitness, we don't think so.
The basic tenet of the Sugi Attitude is to always be mindful
of the following fundamentals as we exercise:

Alternate between stillness and movement, so the
body can remember what it's being taught |

Learn how to observe what's going on in our bodies
so we don't do something harmful |
We've learned that if the body is comfortable doing something,
it will do it gladly. When we ask it to do something painful
or really difficult, it fights back. So we focus on gently
expanding abilities rather than trying to force.
The result? The body gradually responds, areas of pain
and stiffness start to soften and move, and over time you'll
be able do things you never dreamed were possible.

We passionately believe that anyone, regardless of age
can become more fit and healthy if they learn to replace
effort with skill and take the time to learn those skills.
We know how to help people get results they were unable
to get from other fitness or physical wellness programs
by providing an environment where they are free to explore
and discover their physical boundaries of movement. Then
we present options or possible variations of movement that
best fit each individual. Often our students discover the
best movement variation for themselves.
With that new knowledge, each individual is able to gradually
introduce challenges and movements that allow his or her
body to adjust to higher levels of performance. The result
is a marked improvement in flexibility, movement and strength
– regardless of age or ability. We call this approach
the Sugi Way.
We focus on BOTH short and long-term health versus the
many programs that focus only on short-term performance
and fitness gains. Most health and fitness programs believe
you can only achieve good health and performance by consistently
pushing and demanding more from your body (often without
adequate recovery).
Our experience shows otherwise. We focus on reducing or
eliminating the pain you may have come to accept as a consequence
of living and aging. Better health and fitness is about
teaching you to move your body more with efficiency, and
allowing your body to change while you rest.
Sugi Health and Fitness is the only program
that blends several proven disciplines and the Sugi practices
of health and wellness in such a way that it will positively
change the health of so many people.
